Sugar
Sugar is an extremely complex liquid medium, containing many organic and inorganic constituents in soluble, suspended/decantable and suspended/colloidal form.
The conventional sugar clarification and purification process use drum filter, activated carbon power and ion exchanger as the core filtration components. Drum filter uses filter cloth with low filtration efficiency. The protein, fat, colloid, pigment as well as the large molecular saccharides can still penetrate through the filtrating layer and enter the permeate. Therefore, the high concentration of the impurity in the permeate lowers the efficiency of the downstream activated carbon and ion exchanger, and increases their dosage. Meanwhile, certain amount of filter aid is needed for the drum filter, further increasing the cost of the system.
In order to increase the quality of crystallised glucose juice, reduce the production cost, and get crystallised glucose with high DE and DX values, innovative filtration technology is highly demanded.
